Judge Alvin Hellerstein Dies; Maduro Case to Be Reassigned

Hellerstein, a Southern District of New York judge since 1998, died of natural causes Tuesday at age 92.
A new judge will take over Maduro’s case; there is no automatic delay, and the replacement can keep or adjust the existing schedule, including the June 2027 trial date.
Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have pleaded not guilty to multiple charges.
