Judge orders Maurene Comey reinstated after ruling DOJ firing unlawful

  • Furman found the Justice Department violated the Civil Service Reform Act and Comey’s constitutional due-process rights when it fired her in July 2025.
  • The order provides for Comey’s reinstatement as a prosecutor at the Southern District of New York if she chooses, plus back pay from her dismissal through Dec. 20, when she took another job.
  • The Justice Department disagrees with the ruling and plans to appeal; Furman has not yet decided Comey’s First Amendment claim that she was fired for protected political speech.
