Taylor Farms Faces Scrutiny After Multiple Foodborne Illness Outbreaks

Taylor Farms recalled products containing jalapenos after a salmonella outbreak sickened hundreds, following a cyclosporiasis outbreak linked to its iceberg lettuce that affected over 6,300 people and caused two deaths.
The FDA has not inspected the Taylor Farms facility in Mexico since 2016, raising alarms about food safety standards for imported produce.
The FDA's ability to oversee imported food is under scrutiny as its workforce has decreased by 22% since 2024, while inspections of foreign facilities fell by nearly 13% in fiscal 2025.
