U.N. Estimates Over 16,000 Civilians Detained by Russia Amid Ongoing Torture

The U.N. estimates that more than 16,000 civilians are currently detained by Russia, many held incommunicado and subjected to torture.
Over 95% of Ukrainian prisoners of war and 85% of civilian detainees reported experiencing torture, including sexual violence and severe mistreatment.
The U.N. has documented the execution of 129 Ukrainian prisoners of war and the deaths of 48 others due to torture or inadequate medical care.
