DOJ Accuses Duke Law School of Racial Discrimination in Admissions Process

The DOJ's findings letter alleges Duke Law used personal essays and first-generation college status as proxies for race, contradicting its claims of being race-neutral.
Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon stated that using diversity essays to favor certain races constitutes illegal discrimination against white and Asian students.
The DOJ noted that Black or Hispanic applicants had significantly higher admission rates than similarly qualified white or Asian applicants, with median LSAT scores of rejected white and Asian applicants exceeding those of admitted Black applicants.
