US Begins Revoking Passports for Parents with Child Support Debt
- The State Department will revoke passports of parents who owe $100,000 or more in child support starting Friday.
- Approximately 2,700 American passport holders are affected by this initial action.
- The policy will later expand to include parents with debts over $2,500, as mandated by a 1996 law.
- Parents whose passports are revoked will not be eligible for a new passport until their child support debt is paid.
